Waco City Council News
The Waco Tea Party Newsbuster, Lisa, has been busy on her blog about the Waco City
Council news. If you haven't checked it out, click here [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=idgspbdab.0.0.fqwq67cab.0&ts=S0424&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwacocitycouncilwatch.blogspot.com%2F&id=preview].
City Council approved a loan for FreeFlight, a private business here in Waco, to
the tune of $700,000.00. The Waco Trib ran a story about the loan in the paper
on Thursday. ( To read more about it click here [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=idgspbdab.0.0.fqwq67cab.0&ts=S0424&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wacotrib.com%2Fopin%2Fcontent%2Fnews%2Fopinion%2Fstories%2F2009%2F10%2F22%2F10222009wacotopedit.html&id=preview].
) We understand that this action also has to be approved by the County Commissioners.
We have a few questions about this loan (bailout) ourselves, but couldn't get in
touch with the powers that be down at City Hall when we called.
Here are our questions:
1. Which Texas statute allows cities in Texas to give out loans to failing or struggling
businesses (or any business) using tax payer funds?
2. Where did the money come from? Are they lending money that is in the bank?
If so, did it come from tax payers or from the feds (tax payers around the country)?
3. What are the conditions of repayment and is there a default forgiveness (meaning
if FreeFlight can't pay the loan back are the tax payers on the hook for the loan)?
We'll keep trying to get the answers to these questions and will keep you informed
on the progress.
If you would like answers to these or other questions, you may want to give them
a call. We suggest you start with Waco City Manager, Larry Groth his phone number
is: 254-750-5640, or email him at larryg@ci.waco.tx.us [mailto:larryg@ci.waco.tx.us].

Two workshops have been set up for you to engage in the process, we don't know
what this is costing the tax payers but we may as well get our money's worth! The

Information on Treaties and Sovereignty
There have been a LOT of emails flying around about the United States, President
Obama and our sovereignty. While it is alarming that any U.S. President could
sign away our sovereignty in any treaty, here is the good news: IT HAS TO BE RATIFIED
IN THE SENATE! For any treaty to be ratified it takes 67 votes in the Senate for
it to pass. So, if you see those emails don't panic... yet. Call the White House
and your Senators and give them your opinion, your voice does make a difference.
Speaking of calling the White House or any other elected officials...
People sometimes see an 800 number for the White House or members of Congress.
Those numbers are provided by a 3rd party, not the government. If you choose to
use them be aware that you may hear a message from the group telling you what to
say to elected officials and then you will be patched through to the person or office
you are trying to reach. Many lobbying groups do this, and it confuses many people.
On one hand I may not like the message or endorse it and I believe it confuses
people, on the other hand I'm not paying for a long distance call! Use the oppositions
dime and save some money or use the real numbers and pay for the call yourself.
It's a toss up...
If you are looking for contact information for elected officials you can find them
at our website and many others. Check out the Library of Congress or Vote Check,
there are links to both on our website.

Other News and Information
Doc Fix: [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=idgspbdab.0.0.fqwq67cab.0&ts=S0424&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fpolitics%2F2009%2F10%2F21%2Fsenate-leaders-fail-votes-consider-doctor-fix%2F&id=preview]
Earlier in the week the Senate failed to pass the "Doc Fix" plan that would have
cost tax payers $247 Billion over 10 years. Thirteen Democrats and the Republicans
blocked the measure which needed 60 votes to pass. YOUR VOICE MATTERS, the calls,
emails and faxes you send to your elected officials do make a difference.
Democrat Leaders Shut Republicans and Fellow Democrats Out: [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=idgspbdab.0.0.fqwq67cab.0&ts=S0424&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gop.gov%2Fmedia%2Ffeatures%2F09%2F10%2F22%2Fbehind-closed-doors&id=preview]
President Obama promised to have open meetings broadcast on C-Span and promised
to be transparent. Apparently some of the Democrats in the Senate didn't see that
speech or get the memo. The health care debate is too important and has too great
of an impact on our economy for these shameful tactics.
The White House Attacks Fox News ... Media rallies around Fox: [http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=idgspbdab.0.0.fqwq67cab.0&ts=S0424&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D9yMshqX6vBM%26feature%3Dplayer_embedded&id=preview]
Who would have thought that ABC, NBC, CBS & CNN would come to FOX new's defense?
For any Presidential administration to wage "war" on a news outlet is outrageous,
the Executive branch should NEVER have that much control over the media. Our media
outlets, no matter what their political leaning, are supposed to be the watch dogs
of liberty and they can not do their job if they are tethered to the doghouse.
